maniFold Omega is a hybrid real-time effect processor that blends micro-looping, granular FX, spectral-style delay processing and feedback-based textures. It is built for experimental sound design, ambient layering, glitch textures and abstract time-based transformation.

Sixteen play heads read from one shared, variable-length buffer while a cluster of all-pass delay lines smears and recirculates the result. Record into it, freeze it, scan it, feed it back into itself — and save the whole buffer with your project so the texture is exactly where you left it.

Threshold-triggered buffer recording

  • Gate Rec — arms threshold-based recording. The buffer auto-locks below the set level and opens above it, so there is no manual bufferLock toggling.
  • Threshold control — drag the detector meter directly to set the engage level.
  • Rec Buffer Feedback promotedRecBufferFdbck is out of the Settings menu and onto the main panel, with live monitoring on the input detector meter.

Tempo awareness and two new colour controls

The plugin is now tempo-aware. Recording buffer length locks to 1–8 bars, base delay time sets in note subdivisions, and playback syncs to the DAW transport — hit play and everything moves with the session.

  • toneShape — five filter modes in one knob: DJ 12 dB, Tilt EQ, BPF, Notch and DJ Ladder 24 dB, with the filter curve drawn live.
  • character — morphs continuously between chorus and flanger colouration, with a pre/post switch that places it before or after the micro-loop engine. Pre shapes the source going into the buffer; post processes the loop on the way out. Very different results.
  • Trapezoid window — a new micro-loop window shape with a live envelope visualiser, so you can see the shape you are working with.

Micro-looper and granular engine

Sixteen play heads read from a shared, variable-size audio buffer. Position, length, panning and pitch are randomised per head, and a real-time visualiser shows every active head and its position in the buffer as it moves.

Playback algorithms

  • Butterfly — each play head has a 50% chance of playing in reverse, putting organic, unpredictable movement into the texture.
  • PRISMA — reversed play heads with a 50% probability of transposing to the 5th. Enable Octave Jitter and that interval extends to 19 semitones for wide, shimmering harmonic clouds.

Envelope and loop shape

  • mLoopShape — sets the amplitude envelope for each play head, including the trapezoid window added in 1.2.
  • mLoopSize — defines the base playback duration, for tighter or broader loops.
  • Playhead Bounds — gently fades play heads out as they reach the end of the buffer, eliminating clicks at buffer boundaries.

Buffer management

  • Variable buffer size — 1 to 60 seconds, from tiny glitches to long ambient loops.
  • State saving — the buffer contents are saved with the DAW project, so your textures are exactly where you left them on reload.
  • Freeze / lock — capture a moment and loop it indefinitely.
  • bufferClear — instantly flush the play/record buffer for a fresh start.
  • Drag and drop — pull audio files straight from the DAW browser into the buffer. No bouncing, no importing.

Drag and drop needs a host with VST3 file drag-and-drop support. If yours does not have it, use Load Buffer in the Settings menu.

Delay cluster and feedback network

Sixteen delay lines built on all-pass filter topology rather than plain delays, giving rich comb filtering, pitch smearing and spectral-style time dispersion. Recirculation feeds the network back into itself for evolving, chaotic textures — closer to a high-end reverb tank or a modular feedback loop than to a delay.

  • Playhead-to-buffer feedback — route play head output directly back into the record buffer for self-generating textures, evolving drones and feedback loops with no external routing.
  • LFO modulation spread — offsets modulation phase across the delay network for stereo width and organic movement.
  • Integrated limiter and input soft clipper — keeps the output under control at high feedback and density settings.
